Since its founding, the Québec Gay Archives has assembled an impressive quantity of documents, publications and multimedia items.

In order to give an accurate estimate of the extent of our collections, it should be mentioned that the Québec Gay Archives currently possesses:

  • 40 linear metres of fonds (Collections of documents gathered by or relating to a person or an organization).
  • 2,000 posters.
  • Over 40,000 photos.
  • More than 1,000 periodical titles published in Québec or outside Québec, both active and no longer publishing...
  • More than 500 personal or thematic dossiers.
  • An important collection of press clippings of which the oldest (a photocopy) dates from 1869.
  • Over 600 books (fiction, poetry, theory)
  • Over 100 theses or student papers.
  • Approximately 50 reports concerning AIDS.
  • 60 8 mm films.
  • Approximately 30 video cassettes..
  • 200 sound recording of gay programming, or programming on gays and lesbians, or of meetings and seminars held by gay and lesbian groups.
  • A collection of government documents (reports, texts of laws, information on government programs...)
